Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the RentTruth mobile application or website ("Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use our Service. These Terms apply to all users, including tenants who submit reviews and landlords who access the platform.

2. Eligibility

• You must be at least 18 years of age, or the legal renting age in your jurisdiction, to use RentTruth
• You must have personally lived at or rented the property you are reviewing
• You must provide accurate identity verification when submitting a review
• You may not create accounts on behalf of others or use another person's identity

3. Review Guidelines

When submitting a review, you agree to the following:

• Truthfulness: Your review must reflect your genuine experience at the property
• Accuracy: All factual statements must be true to the best of your knowledge
• Personal experience: You may only review properties where you have personally lived or rented
• No fake reviews: Submitting false, fabricated, or paid reviews is strictly prohibited
• No harassment: Reviews must not contain personal attacks, threats, or harassment of individuals
• No defamation: You may not make false statements of fact that damage someone's reputation
• No discrimination: Reviews must not contain content that discriminates based on race, religion, gender, nationality, disability, or other protected characteristics
• No spam: You may not post duplicate, irrelevant, or promotional content

4. Moderation

All reviews submitted to RentTruth are subject to moderation before being published. We reserve the right to:

• Approve, reject, or request revision of any review
• Remove reviews that violate these Terms at any time
• Suspend or terminate accounts that repeatedly violate our guidelines
• Share information with law enforcement if required by law

Moderation decisions are final, though you may contact us to appeal at info@renttruth.app.

5. Dispute Process

Landlords who have verified their identity and ownership of a property may submit a formal dispute against a review. The dispute process works as follows:

• Landlords must verify their identity and property ownership before disputing
• Disputes must be submitted through the official in-app dispute form
• Supporting documentation may be required
• RentTruth will review the dispute and may contact both parties
• Our decision regarding disputes is final

6. Identity Verification

To maintain the integrity of our platform, we require identity verification for review submission. You agree that:

• Documents you submit are genuine and belong to you
• Submitting fraudulent documents is a violation of these Terms and may be illegal
• Your documents will be handled securely and in accordance with our Privacy Policy

7. Intellectual Property

By submitting a review, you grant RentTruth a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display, distribute, and use your review content as part of our Service. You retain ownership of your content but agree that it may be displayed publicly on our platform.

The RentTruth name, logo, and app design are protected by intellectual property laws and may not be used without our written permission.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

RentTruth is provided on an "as-is" and "as-available" basis. We make no warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to:

• The accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any review on our platform
• That the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free
• That reviews reflect the current condition of any property

Reviews represent the opinions of individual tenants and do not constitute professional advice. Always conduct your own due diligence before signing a lease.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, RentTruth and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including reliance on reviews or other content on the platform.

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be resolved in the courts of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.

11. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or in-app notification. Continued use of RentTruth after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

12. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time for violations of these Terms, with or without notice. You may also delete your account at any time through the app settings or by contacting us.
